Mountain Walk and Wade

Take a walk with us. We all need a break from the daily grind sometimes. When it’s time to recharge, head to the hills and get your boots on the ground. Time is measured by each bend in the river. You won’t have Wi-Fi, but you’ll be connected.

Run to the hills.
About the Trip

Southern Alberta is home to stunning mountain rivers and creeks, hosting populations of native Westslope Cutthroat Trout, Rainbow Trout, Bull Trout, and Mountain Whitefish. The small streams of Central Alberta may look and feel similar but are often inhabited by ghost-like Brown Trout. Within striking distance from Calgary by vehicle, a guided day fishing these clear waters along the Eastern Slopes is an unforgettable Alberta experience. Many of these waters are far too small to accommodate watercraft, so the best way to visit these areas is to approach on foot. With a truly vast array of fishing spots to choose from, the location of your Walk & Wade trip will be determined by your fishing preferences coupled with the recommendations of your guide. Things such as weather, intended target species, fish migration, spawning seasons, density of river users, water temperature and more are all considerations.

just around the bend

A dyed-in-the-wool dry fly fisherman may wish to spend a quiet afternoon flicking Royal Wulff patterns to obliging Cutthroat Trout. Those who prefer more adrenaline infused fishing might try enticing a predatory Bull Trout out of deep cover into smashing a large streamer. The true masochists will subject themselves to the rigors of hunting monster Browns on overgrown spring creeks. Casting to ultra-wary fish through tunnels of brush is the ultimate test of patience and skill. Our guides have the knowledge to facilitate these experiences and more. With more than enough water to fish in a lifetime available, there’s a stream in Alberta waiting for you.

Yes, a reasonable level of physical fitness and mobility is required to safely navigate the terrain found on mountain Walk & Wade trips. The conditions will be similar to those encountered on an intermediate level hike, including walking across slick submerged rocks while crossing streams on foot. Many of these streams are located in canyons, and may accessed by a steep trail down to the banks. If personal mobility is an issue, consider joining us for a Bow River float trip!
